Welcome to the Computer Science Department

The Computer Science department at St Monica’s strives to provide our students with the knowledge they need to be able to understand, use and develop digital technology. We want our students to think critically about the digital world and the way it impacts on their lives.

Curriculum Intent

The curriculum is designed to allow students to have access to transferable knowledge through both Computer Science and Information Technology and make informed choices on how they pursue the subjects as they continue their learning journey through the school. Computer Science should be engaging and practical, it should encourage creativity as well as developing computational thinking and problem-solving skills. We aim for the students to leave St Monica’s as digital citizens with the knowledge to thrive in an ever-changing digital world.  Students should be able to go online and stay safe and understand what they need to do if they do not feel safe while on social media or online gaming.

Curriculum overview

Our curriculum map outlines the programme of study in Computer Science for all pupils from Year 7 to Year 11. We build on knowledge from Key Stage 2 and prepare our students for life beyond St Monica’s.

Learning Journeys

Our learning journeys outline, in a visual format, the key knowledge that is shared with pupils in each year group. They provide a reference point for teaching and sharing knowledge in lessons.
