At Saint Monica’s we provide a variety of experiences of collective worship. This is seen in assemblies through collective prayer, in form time during daily collective worship, joining community prayer with confidence and respect and in pupil participation in end of year Masses and Form Time Masses throughout the school year.
Weekly Structure
Each day at St Monica’s there will be an assembly rotated around all year groups and which is clearly and recognisably an act of Christian worship. There will be many different themes included in our daily worship.
The involvement of students in the preparation and delivery of assemblies in every year group is expected through the year. Assemblies can incorporate a variety of media; including the spoken word, music, poetry, drama, ICT etc. to allow students to feel fully involved. Staff are expected to attend the assembly along with the year groups with which they are associated.
For those members of the school community not in the assembly there will be a collective act of worship during morning registration as a form or tutor group.
Wednesday Form Time Mass is an integral and cherished part of our school community, providing students and staff with the opportunity to come together in faith and reflection. Each week, our parish priests generously support us by celebrating Mass, offering spiritual guidance and fostering a deeper connection with our Catholic values. These Masses are held for all year groups on a rotating basis, ensuring that every student has the chance to participate, reflect, and strengthen their relationship with God. This regular celebration reinforces our shared commitment to faith, prayer, and community, which are at the heart of life here at St Monica’s.
Whole-school liturgies and Celebrations of the Word should offer a variety of liturgical and devotional experiences which may include Stations of the Cross, Eucharistic Adoration, Remembrance Services, All Saints Day Celebrations, Ash Wednesday Services, Guided Christian Meditation and Creative Prayer Experiences. The AHT, RE Team and Caritas Ambassadors and GIFT team will take the lead in preparing the liturgies and student involvement in the preparation and delivery is considered very important. All whole-school celebration are student-led with the Senior Liturgy prefects and Caritas group taking an active role in planning and creating resources for the liturgies.
