Religious Education

 As a Department at Saint Monica’s and in the Diocese our intent is;

  • To develop knowledge and understanding of religious belief and practice.
  • To make connections to other subjects and our wider school curriculum.
  • To reflect on my own belief and its relevance in living my life today.
  • To be challenged to respond to the big Q’s.

 

KS3 – Year 7-9

We follow the RE curriculum directives as set out by the Catholic Education service and supported by the Diocese. The four areas of study we cover are:

  • Revelation
  • The Church
  • Celebration
  • Life in Christ.

KS4 – Year 10- 11

We follow Edexcel Religious Studies: Catholic Christianity Specification A.

Students will work through the three areas of study below to be prepared for the three external exams they will sit.

Paper 1: Catholic Christianity: 1 hour 45 minutes- 50% of the overall GCSE grade. 

  • Catholic Beliefs and Teachings.
  • Catholic Practices.
  • Sources of Wisdom and Authority.
  • Forms of Expression and Ways of Life.

Paper 2: Judaism: 50 minutes- 25% of the overall GCSE grade. 

  • Catholic Beliefs and Teachings.
  • Catholic Practices.

Paper 3: Philosophy and Ethics: 50 minutes- 25% of the overall GCSE grade. 

  • Arguments for the existence of God.
  • Religious teachings on relationships in the twenty first century.
