Welcome to the Music Department

Welcome to the Music department at St Monica’s.  We aim to promote and share with our students the highest standards of subject knowledge in Music. We strive to nurture,  stretch and challenge every musician. This approach is delivered through classroom curriculum lessons, extracurricular activities and wider opportunities to engage in the musical life of the school. Students are taught to express themselves and use critical thinking skills in a range of projects by exploring different genres of music, performance and composition.  We strive to engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity, and sense of achievement.

To educate, develop and inspire students to use their God given musical gifts and talents and provide them with the skills for lifelong enjoyment of music.

How?

  • Develop in the student an understanding and appreciation of the various types, styles, and forms of music which can be beneficial during an entire lifetime, and understand their place in society.
  • Develop better citizens through team work, cooperation, effort, resilience, self-discipline and responsibility.
  • Make students aware of the possibilities music offers as a career or vocation.
  • Contribute to help broaden the cultural and liturgical life of our school and community.
  • Help fulfil students’ potential through development of emotional intelligence, confidence, creativity, coordination, skills and knowledge, high level thinking, self-expression, spiritual development, and extra-curricular activities.
