At Saint Monica’s it is our mission that we know and live out the teachings and example of Jesus Christ. These teachings underpin who we are as a school community and are the inspiration for all we do.

It is part of our mission to strive to support one another as a family that is ‘diverse and different’ whilst living the gospel values of ‘justice, forgiveness and peace’.

Each member of our community is valued for the contribution they bring and the difference they make to our school community each day. We also encourage each person to go out and share their faith with others remembering that ‘Christ has no body now on earth but yours’. — St. Teresa of Ávila. We want each person here to use what they have learnt at Saint Monica’s to go out and ‘make a difference in our world’.

At St Monica’s, we seek to live out the Gospel values of Justice, Forgiveness and Peace and support each other through prayer and service.

Friday Morning Prayer and Reflection

Every Friday morning, before school, students and staff are able to attend a student led Prayer and Reflection. This follows the liturgical themes of that week and also any current events that may be occurring.

Weekly Form Mass

Each week, different form groups get the opportunity to have Mass in our beautiful school Chapel, led by one of our local parish priests.

GIFT Team Assemblies

Students from the GIFT Team led an assembly on the Caritas Bee There Campaign to different year groups.

Chaplaincy

We have a popular and active GIFT Team, which is led by our lay chaplain, Mrs Forkin. The Gift Team meet weekly to prepare for liturgies and to plan fundraising for local charities.

Bury Faith Forum

In November, GIFT Team members from St Monica’s went on a joint trip to attend Bury Faith Forum at Guardian Angel’s Parish Centre. Students got the opportunity to listen to key speakers from a wide range of religions and ask questions about these faiths.

Poppy Appeal

In November 2023, students from the GIFT Team visited forms, selling poppies, during the period of Remembrance.

Form groups created a Remembrance wreath display to commemorate Remembrance Sunday 2023.

Samaritan’s Purse:

In November 2023, students put together over 70 shoe boxes, filled with gifts for needy children at Christmas time.

Multi faith prayer room

In December, we were delighted for Bishop John to bless and officially open our multi faith prayer room. Guests from the major world faiths and local politicians attended.

Caritas

In December 2023, the school raised over £200 for Caritas, from St Monica’s Advent Service. St Monica’s students presented this money to Patrick O’Dowd, the Director of Caritas and Patrick led a talk to the GIFT Team on the work that Caritas does.

Students also donated over 30 boxes of long-life food to Bury Red Door, for their Caritas Bee There Christmas Appeal.

St Monica’s Advent Service

In December 2023, St Monica’s choir, band and drama team performed at St Bernadette’s Church, alongside St Bernadette’s RC Primary school in their Advent Service performance.

St Monica’s also took this service to the residents at Nazareth House Care Home. The residents made Christmas cards for the students, which were warmly received.
